Year 7 Unlocking Potential trip to M Shed
Year 7 students on the Unlocking Potential programme attended a Discovery Day at the M Shed this week. As part of their experience they were given a behind-the-scenes tour around the rarely-seen M Shed Stores, where artefacts not on public display in the museum are kept in storage. This was a fascinating experience for all concerned and included sightings of whale bones, an antique dentist chair and hospital bed and the former Duke of Beaufort’s wrecked carriage!
Following the tour of the stores and also a tour of the public galleries (given by museum guides) the students were then asked to choose and research an artefact from the museum’s collection on display. In small groups they then prepared and delivered presentations to the rest of the class (and museum staff) in the role of museum guides. An excellent time was had by all!
The next Unlocking Potential trip is to the Old Vic Theatre in Bristol. On February 6th.
