EFL Girls Football competition
Eight of our year 7 girls participated in the English Football League National Football competition today.
The girls competed in the rounds beating St Katherine's a convincing 5-0 with goals from Lola (2), Laila (2) and Ruby (1). They then played Ashton Park in which they lost 2-1, but they fought well and the goal from Lola was a fantastic header into the bottom corner. They then played Bedminster B team winning 3-1 with goals again from Lola, Laila and Ruby.
They were then ecstatic to find out they had done enough in the rounds to make it into the quarter finals where they played St Bernadettes. At half time we were all level at 0-0. 2 minutes into the 2nd half Lola scored making it 1-0 to us. It looked set to be a win for us but with 20 seconds to go St Bernadettes equalised. This then took us to extra time, and despite dominating both teams were unable to score. This resulted in penalties. We were all square after 3 penalties but unfortunately we lost on sudden death.
The girls were gutted, but they did extremely well in a tournament that was made up of year 7 and 8 teams and we took a full team of year 7's meaning they will get a second opportunity next year.
