Art

I am an artist

Curriculum Lead: Aaron Short

Being an Artist:

Intent:

At Bridge Learning Primary School, we believe that art plays a vital role in inspiring our children to enhance their creative talent and develop their artistic skills. We want our children to have a clear understanding of artists and their methods and to have a deeper respect for creative activities. As part of our BLC values, we want the children to be respectful, global citizens by teaching them about a range of artists, craft makers, designers and architects.

Art and Design: We follow the national curriculum for art and design by ensuring that all children:

  • produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences.
  • become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques.
  • evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design.
  • Know about great artists, craft makers, designers and architects, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.

At Bridge Learning Campus, we celebrate the work that the children have completed through exhibitions in our Enquiry outcomes, and a range of ever-changing displays throughout the school. ClassDojo, the school website and our social media promote the efforts of our children, and promote high standards.

 Implementation:

At Bridge Learning Campus, art features strongly throughout our Enquiry curriculum. We dare our children to challenge themselves and develop their artistic talents through a variety of mediums, including painting, sketching, sculpture and even sewing.

Children appraise and evaluate the work of many artists within different enquiries. Opportunities are given to practise specific techniques used by artists, and to master them before combining their skills and knowledge into a final piece. They will evaluate this piece to identify how their skills and knowledge has improved as a result.

Impact:

Children’s knowledge and understanding of art is observed through discussions with them. We speak about the artists they’ve studied, their influence and art throughout history. Progression of our children’s artistic skills and knowledge is assessed by their ability to use these skills and share their influences.
