The Student Support Centre (SSC) provides a thirty place unit for students in Key Stage 3 and 4 who need additional support out of their mainstream setting, to acquire the skills to enable them to access education successfully.
Places in KS3 are offered on a 12 week ‘revolving door' provision with students returning to mainstream at the end of this time period. Places in KS4 are permanent places, designed to take the student until the end of the Key Stage or to move them onto more appropriate provision.
The SSC believes that every student has a right to achieve to the best of his or her ability. We are committed to running a centre which provides an environment in which all students are able to fulfil their potential for academic achievement and social and emotional development.
To do this we design individualised programmes of work that ensure that every student will have ongoing experiences of success and achievement.
• Provide high quality teaching & learning, based on rigorous assessment for learning techniques. A focus on the quality of learning.
• Provide specifically designed programs of study to meet individual needs. A relevant, appropriate & personalised education which prepares students for the next steps in their education.
• Offer an enhanced curriculum that includes an intensive pastoral, health and social programme.
• Operate within a locality setting that will provide multi-agency support that is responsive to individual student's needs.
• Ensure that students are achieving the five outcomes according to the ECM agenda.
• Develop a wide range of short term programmes & re-integration support structures in partnership with mainstream schools.
• Further develop the range of accredited provision available at KS4, with clear progression routes into post -16.
• Outreach support & guidance to schools in managing students with challenging behaviour.
• Training for staff on best practice when working with students with challenging behaviour, including the NPSLBA qualification.
• Support and training for parents to ensure that they are providing the best possible support for their children.
