Yoga for Kids

We have been running weekly Yoga sessions for our students every Monday this year since Term 1. Led by James Stuart-Wigley, not only does our Yoga helps to develop better body awareness, self discipline, flexibility, concentration and co-ordination-but we have linked many of our sessions to our curriculum areas also. The classes that participate in Yoga sessions with James are:

U3, 1030-1100 -Rachel and our Post 16 students have been spending their leisure time stretching body and mind, and are now working towards an ASDAN accredited "Yogacise: Towards Independence" qualification.

U1, 1100-1130 - Clare, James and the students have been using Yoga to assist in their Numeracy skills, exploring shape and space, and basic number value in a physical form.

M1, 1330-1400 - Mandy and the 5 students in M1 have been having a unique Yoga experience having taken their sessions into their classroom, and have not looked back since! As Kyle and Callum continue to progress in their body awareness and communication skills, Katelia and Troy now regularly join in full sessions and are beginning to show their Yogic sides!

KS2, 1400-1430 - Brandon, Jakob, Reece, Ethan, Rachael and Moses have all participated in and graduated from the Yoga session this year. Having spent 3 terms with James, they have excelled at their activities and are now continuing much of their practice in class at times-Reece, Rachael and Moses as part of their IEPs! The new KS2 cohort starting in term 4 is Brandon, Joanne, Lacie, Jessica, Benito and Harry-all of which will be addressing direct physical and physiotherapy needs.

All of the students look forward to and enjoy the activities, which involve games that children will recognise and traditional yoga poses which have been especially adapted for New Fosseway students.
