Year 6/7 Transition

The move from Primary School to Secondary School can be a little daunting for your child.

New friends to make, a new Curriculum to challenge them, new rules and procedures and a new Campus to navigate!

Our teachers and our leadership team understand very well the transition and the journey that pupils make into a new school.

Bridge Learning Campus is an "All Through School", where most of our children from the Primary School make the transition to our Secondary School and then often progress onto The City Of Bristol College, who have a presence in our campus.

So we have a great deal of experience of supporting both the emotional and educational needs of young children entering their teenage years!

Our Year 7 entrants come from Primaries right across our community, inlcuding:

* Greenfield  * Wandsdyke  * Fair Furlong  * Hareclive * Bridge Farm  * Perry Court

* Ilminster Avenue  * St Pius X  * Victoria Park  * New Oak  * Connaught

We have close and supportive relationships with all these Primaries and a well proven induction plan for your child's successful transition to Bridge Learning Campus.

Our dedicated Transition Manager and his team meet with Teachers, Pupils and Parents throughout the year.  During June, July and September....

  1. The Transition Manager visits all the children in their Primary Schools and also meets their teachers. (After Year 6 SATS throughout June & July).
  2. Our Head of Inclusion contacts the Primary schools to find out SEN (Special Educational Needs) data and then sets up individual support for those students.
  3. 3rd July SEN Induction day - organised by our Head of Inclusion
  4. 4th July new Year 7's Parents meet senior staff, pass on concerns, important information and discuss school policy and individual needs.
  5. 5th & 6th July All new Year 7s visit BLC for taster lessons to meet each other and the teaching staff for 2 days.
  6. In September, we have Open Days for Parents who wish to visit our campus, see its state-of-the art facilities and meet our teachers before deciding on the best school for their children.

There is a strong pastoral culture at our campus where we promote high standards of personal behaviour coupled to a Phasing Structure which allows pupils to work to their own potential rather than being grouped by age.

Please get in contact with Tom Mackie, our Head of Transition, to discuss any aspect of your child's transition into our Secondary School.

You will be warmly welcomed here at Bridge Learning Campus, officially named The Most Improved Secondary School in Bristol, over the last 6 years.
