School life at BLC - secondary is different to many other secondary schools. Our phasing system and "all through" system means that the distinctions between primary and secondary school are not as pronounced. Pupils from our primary phase, New Fosseway, City of Bristol College and secondary phase can all be seen working together. This approach results in an atmosphere of openness and high expectations; all pupils are aware that they belong to the Campus as opposed to being placed in the old fixed school boxes.
Our campus environment is inclusive and safe; we value respect for all, regardless of their race, religion or personal circumstances. Any allegation of bullying is dealt with quickly and restoratively; we encourage all pupils to form positive relationships with their peers - who may not necessarily in the same year group or phase as themselves.
Vertical tutoring also contributes to this ethos. Pupils are organised in tutor groups that are composed of a mix of children from all years; younger pupils are mentored by older pupils as well as staff. This approach has had a pronounced effect on the way that the pupils view their relationships with each other.
