Pero House was established in September 2009. We are named after a Bridge like all the other houses at BLC. Our bridge is important as it is named after an enslaved man ‘Pero' who came from the Caribbean and worked as a personal servant in Bristol. He died in 1798 in Bristol. Pero Bridge was built in 1999 to mark the Millennium and can be found on the Waterfront in the City Centre.
Pero House has a motto; ‘Gold - We're Indestructible'. Our house colour is Gold/Yellow and we believe in promoting and striving for success (both as a House and individually) even when there are barriers in our way.
We have a strong sense of identity and a great team ethos. Staff support students in offering each other help, encouragement and guidance. This can be seen, for example in the coaching activities that take place during tutor time. Since the House was established last year, we have won the House Cup (Easter 2010) and are the current conventional sports day winners.
We have started 2010/2011 academic year with the second best attendance at BLC. Currently our attendance is 91.7%, which is just 0.1% behind the leading house. Each Tutor group and individuals have attendance targets. These targets will be discussed in Performance Review Day (PRD) interviews. Congratulations to P-FY who have the best attendance at 96.2%! This is a tremendous improvement for them, so keep it up!
Pero Rewards currently stand at 2935; this is just 400 merits behind the current leaders. Remember to remind your teachers about merits. Well done to P-WCA who have 526 merits!
Unfortunately a great deal of lateness has been affecting Pero's behavioural performance. Almost 30% of C4s last week were given for poor punctuality. Well done to P-MN who have the best behaviour.
This term has seen the launch of coaching in tutor time. Phase 4 students have met this challenge with enthusiasm and maturity. It is fantastic to see them coaching Phase 3 students in their tutor group. Phase 4 students are being mentored by their tutor or associate tutor. This involves setting realistic targets for improvement. These targets will be discussed further at PRD.
In our assembly earlier this week, we recognised our outstanding tutees, as voted for by their tutors. They are the following students;

CTH = Danielle Ash - Lots of merits, excellent attitude.
FTA = Klai Manning-Improved timekeeping and attitude.

LHA = Chanelle Dayus - Being a superb mentor.
MN = Rebecca Cutsforth - Always Ready to Learn.
PR = Tommy Nattress -Improved timekeeping.

Congratulations to these students. Could it be you next time?
Mrs. Trudgen.
