Geography is delivered as part of the phase 3 humanities programme. It introduces a number of topics which students go on to study at phase 4 if they opt to take geography at GCSE. The Personal Learning and Thinking Skills are delivered throughout the humanities programme of study.
Phase 4 students can opt to take Geography at GCSE level. We follow the WJEC specification A exam syllabus which covers topics such as rivers, tourism, earthquakes and volcanoes, development, population and coasts. Students sit two exams which are both sat at the end of the second year of study.
Students also complete two controlled assessments based on fieldwork linked to the subject content. In the past these have included tourism studies of Bath and Weston-Super-Mare, and may in the future include studies of Cabot Circus.
Currently, Geography is taught at BLC by Miss Cooper.
