As a Specialist college the importance of Engineering and Technology in the school curriculum should not be underestimated
The pace and role of technological change, demands from higher education and prospective employers and the integration of technology into everyday life, makes it essential that students leave Bridge Learning Campus fully informed and comfortable with Engineering in its various forms.
The definition of the term ‘Engineering' has long provoked debate into whether one sentence can justify its true meaning, however at the Bridge we follow this ethos; "An all-through integration of Mathematical, Scientific and Technological understanding that inspires strategies or products to exceed the needs and expectations of an individual, a group or community".
Use of this definition through a broad and phased curriculum allows many different facets of learning to be encountered. At BLC, Engineering encourages cross-curricular subject participation through the raised development of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). This leads to:
• Problem solving skills
• Initiative
• Divergent, creative and innovative thought
• Teamwork and interpersonal skills
• Independent work and learning
• Enterprise and economic awareness
• Use of modern technologies and information storage, retrieval and use
• Awareness of the social and environmental impact of current and future technologies
It is not a desire to distort our phased curricula towards an ‘engineering' bias; however we do strive to enhance all curriculum areas by using the combination of STEM subjects to facilitate a deeper learning through the Campus, leading to success for all.
