At BLC we are always interested in developing "partnerships" with groups, agencies and bodies who will help to bring high value outcomes into the campus to support students of all ages and our staff.
We are always adding to and developing a network of partners from across the region. These partnerships can take many forms and include everything from visting business speakers and workshops to sponsorship and inter-school projects. No school can hope to offer such a wide range of activities and contacts from its own resources.
Effective and realistic partnerships provide a very efficient method of bringing the "world of work into the classroom and the classroom out to the world of work". Our partnership model has three strands. Developing links with the local community, the world of business and other Schools in our region, and in particular Bristol. The work involves developing these links both internally inside the campus and externally with the organizations concerned. It relies upon having a curriculum that allows the links to be made and for the links to have real value - we are not just paying lip-service to the idea.
So far BLC has been very successful in taking part or winning sponsorship in wide areas of the curriculum. BLC performing arts has won work=shops for students with Bath-Spa University and professional tutoring for its dance classes. We have had professional support to help with a wide variety of sports. In Maths we have been successful with Airbus and Skanska to help create a mathematical project based around the construction industry. The engineering specialism has been supported by Rolls, Royce, Airbus , we are also an F1 school. Most recently Boeing aircraft have awarded BLC the Build-a Plane project and our links with the Institute of Directors is allowing many small and medium sized businesses to take an active part in helping us to develop the "work-force of tomorrow" . More partnerships are planned in the areas of Engineering, performing arts, science and Health and Social Care in this new school year.
